The Town of High River is again calling on residents to help spruce up the place.

Pat Markley with Community Services says the 13th Annual Green Sweep goes Saturday May 13 and it all starts at the Fire Hall just before nine o'clock for a light breakfast.

"We sign you up and then there's a safety orientation, and then we start to parcel out where the areas are that need an extra bit of clean-up this spring," Markley says. "So we have a big map and we stick it up on the wall and we assign areas to our volunteers, as to where they're really needed."

She says if someone has a favourite park space of area they want to clean they can do that as well  but the Town just wants to know where they'll be so they don't double up resources. After it's all done, everyone's asked to gather again at the Fire Hall for a Thank You Bar-B-Que at noon.

There will also be an electronics pick-up.

"We're going to have three bins at the Fire Hall, so if you've got those old television sets, those great big clunkers and you don't know what to do with it, you can bring it to the Fire Hall and drop it off and we'll make sure it gets recycled," she says. "So it's televisions, computers, keyboards, mouse, cables those sorts of things, monitors, printers, laptops and tablets. We won't be taking cell phones unfortunately."

And Markley says on Thursday May 11, Friday May 12 and Saturday May 13 the Town is picking up tipping fees at the Foothills Regional Landfill for High River residents taking non-commercial residential waste there. Tipping fees will also be waived for household hazardous waste, like paint, in quantities under 20 litres.
