STARS is looking for a little help from Alberta Municipalities and they were at High River Town Council on Monday making the pitch.

Glenda Farnden Municipal Relations for STARS says they get some help for the government but they have to come up with the rest.

"21% which is roughly just over seven million dollars per year. There's still more than fifteen million to be raised from goodwill donations and campaigns like the STARS Lottery."

She says a twenty-thousand dollar commitment from the town would help bridge that gap.

Farnden adds over a six year period on average STARS made nineteen missions per year to High River.

She says she understands High River has seen its share of strife and taking the current economy into consideration is why she's shooting for twenty-thousand.

"It works out to about a dollar fifty per capita, the majority of municipalities that are in this Alberta Municipal Initiative are currently giving the minimum of two dollars per capita."

Farnden says STARS responds to accidents, medical emergencies and medical transfers in even more places now.

"It's not just accidents, you could have a heart attack or stroke anywhere and now we have the privilege to have access to STARS not only in eastern B.C. but Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba too."
