The Wildrose and Progressive Conservative parties have come up with a plan to come together under one banner.

Wildrose leader, Brian Jean, and PC leader, Jason Kenney, signed an agreement in principle Thursday that establishes the process to unify the conservative parties into the United Conservative Party.

Pat Stier, MLA for Livingstone-MacLeod was a member of the unity committee that hashed out the details of the agreement.

"It was a fairly complex issue that we were undertaking and there was an awful lot of things to check out and ensure that were were covering off, but all in all it was process that was quite enjoyable and everybody was certainly interested in getting the job done," he says.

Stier says plans are for a leadership vote October 28th.

"That pretty well set the time frame for us because that's generally when the fall session starts at the legislature," he says. "We saw no reason to carry this along any longer than necessary."

The proposed agreement still has to be ratified by the members of each party.

Members of Wildrose will do that at their convention July 23, 2017.
