He's back in the Alberta Legislature now, but sitting Livingstone-Macleod MLA Pat Stier says he's been keeping a close eye on the campaign to replace him.

Stier, who'll step down as the riding's MLA when the next election is called says he's met all the candidates, but is staying at arms length leading up to the nomination election.

"I have been sort of letting them work their own situations without any extra influence. I always stand by and when they phone me looking for any extra information or tips, I'm happy to provide them."

Stier says he won't endorse any one candidate.

"I don't think I will. That would, in my view, not be fair. All of these people coming forward, I respect what they're doing and I'm so glad that there's a lot of interest in our movement in the south country and I'm so glad we have good, qualified candidates there."

Roger Reid, Nathan Neudorf and Thomas Schneider are all running for the nomination.
