Landowners and local politicians are of the same mind when it comes to rural crime.

They want to see stiffer sentences for offenders, and those who re-offend.

Livingstone/Macleod MLA Pat Stier says for the most part justice issues are dealt with at the federal level, which is something they are working to keep on the radar of their counterparts in Ottawa.

"A lot of that is federal, and you know that's called the "revolving door" problem. We're working with them and trying to develop new ideas to put forward to both the federal and provincial governments in terms of stiffer penalties and trying to resolve this revolving door problem."

Stier says he was glad to see the Province provide cash and resources to help combat rural crime, but he fears it's not enough and won't get to where it's needed soon enough.
