It would seem that Alberta now has one new conservative party, as overwhelming support came through for unification of the Alberta PC's, and the Wildrose party.

Wildrose Livingston - Macleod MLA, Pat Stier says he's excited about the change.

"You know I'm excited for all of our members who now have a unique grassroots opportunity to fully participate in the formulation of our new policy and consitution process."

The Wildrose and PC's members both voted 95% in favour of becoming one, although voter turnout for the Wildrose members was at 57%, while the PC Party was at 55%.

Stier says it won't take long before we see action on the new party.

"I think it will all go over very smoothly, in fact tomorrow I'll be participating in the first meeting of the first combined caucus in Edmonton." Stier adds, "We're all looking very much forward to working with everyone as we plan our new organization there."

Although the voter turnout wasn't quite what either blue party expected, Stier says he's not surprised by the support he's seen.

"Really, it wasn't a surprise. We've been working on this very steadily.  It was kind of interesting to see that both parties came in at the same approval rate of 95%, but it certainly didn't surprise me that the W.R. supported this decision as much as they did."
