Livingstone-Macleod MLA Pat Stier's been pressing the flesh at the Calgary Stampede the last couple of days as both the Wildrose and the Alberta PC's count down to their unification votes.

Stier says he's seeing a lot of support for the two parties to merge.

"Everywhere I go, people have been demanding that we merge actually, they've been saying that we need to get this fixed. They're worried about the government policies we have under the NDP and they want to see that changed as soon as possible. And so we hope to form government following the next election and make those changes for them."

Wildrose Members vote Saturday, July 22, while the PC's are still selling party memberships until Wednesday, July 12 at midnight, with their vote scheduled to run over three days from Thursday, July 20 to Saturday, July 22.
