High River property owners have until June 27 to check in with the Town over their property assessments.

The Supervisor of Assessment, Paul Milligan says the assessments went out near the end of April and since then the town's held three open houses to answer questions that people may have had.

"That was just to help out with people that work during the day, that work the same business hours we have to come out and meet us," he says. "It went very well, it was well attended, we had twice as many people as the year prior and so it was a good turnout, a good exchange of information with the ratepayers."

"Our valuation date is July 1, of 2015, and we use basically a year prior to that for our sales analysis, which means we go back to July 1 of 2014," Milligan says. "So when you look at today's date we don't have current assessments, we're using historical, so some of the information we're using for the assessment is that you've received could be up to two years old. So anything that's happening to your market value now will be addressed into the next years assessment."

He says property owners can still appeal the assessments or get information until June 27. All the pertinent information is on the back of the assessment document.

"We're still having the impact of the flood on our assessment process," Milligan says. "We're a little further behind than we would like to be at this time but with the flood impacting our workload and schedule we anticipate at the end of this year and into next year we should be getting back to a normal time frame where we'll be sending the notices out in January, early February again, but we hope to be there in a couple of years and get back on track."
