It's going to be an extra sweet Christmas for seniors in High River.

Volunteers will be out this weekend delivering almost 400 stockings that the community has put together.

Sue Mueller from Coco Lux says they have lots of volunteers wanting to help.

"AHS will be there to give us a helping hand," said Mueller. "With the flu outbreak now we don't want to spread too many germs around.  We are trying to limit the amount of people who are coming. We have lists of hundreds of people that want to help out."

Last weekend they took over 100 stockings to the manor for the residents there.

"There was smiles and there was hugs, and there were tears and there was kisses and little babies getting picked up by these senior citizens. It was amazing."

Community support for the program was beyond the wildest expectations of everyone involved and they are hoping to carry it forward nest year.

"This has gone crazy. It has gone completely viral and I have so many high expectations for next year. We have about 800 stockings filled up so far. We have dispersed about 250 already.

Along with Mueller, Mindy Barstad and Mike Crawford from Co-operators Insurance and Jason McCauley from Sobeys have been spearheading the program.
