The Town of Strathmore has a new logo to commemorate Canada's 150 Birthday.

"Our Canada 150 committee decided that they wanted to create a Canada 150 logo that depicted our national pride with a Strathmore flare," said Tracy Simpson, Strathmore Communications and Event Officer.

The committee came up with a contest and pitched it to students in Grade 7 to 12 in the community.

"We had about 21 entries and they were all really good," Simpson added.

From there the committee narrowed down the top five, which were voted on by the community, and that is how a winner was picked.

The winner had all the elements they were looking for, Canadian history and Strathmore history.

The winning logo was done by Emmeline Keeling features a maple leaf, a train, grain, a cattail and people.

"The committee was really in love with this one because it had so much detail and so much history to it."

Strathmore plans to celebrate the 150th birthday includes a bigger and better Canada Day Celebrations followed up with a family picnic the next day.
