The search for a new Superintendent for the Foothills School Division is underway.

Board Chair Larry Albrecht says after working with a consultant and engaging with the community they came up with a job description for the advertisement.

"It has been advertised throughout Alberta and the western provinces for sure," said Albrecht. "Closing deadline is December 7th and then on the 14th the consultant will bring us a list of candidates and we are going to spend three or four hours that day going through and creating a short list."

The board hopes to be interviewing candidates in January.

Albrecht says the engagement process they used to come up with a job description was very rewarding.

"The engagement sessions, a few of them weren't extremely well attended, but they were all attended. The online survey had lots and lots of submissions."

The common themes that came out confirmed for the board what they needed to include in the job description.

Albrecht says they went into the process with a blank slate, and they didn't create the profile for the ad until they reviewed all of the information.

He says anyone applying needs to be an educational leader and a bit of a visionary.

"Somebody who knows what education in the province and the country where it is at and knows where it is going. Somebody who is going to be invested in attending schools and working with staff to develop the initiatives of education and move us forward.

Albrecht says the person will also need to maintain the culture of an FSD family.
