Friday marks International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Day all over the world.

The day is designed to bring awareness of those families and individuals who are dealing with the disorder on a day to day basis.

Executive Director of the Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society Danna Ormstrup says with branches set up in Okotoks, High River and Strathmore, they're there to help anyone out at anytime.

"Our focus is around providing support to people who are caring for someone with FASD, support to someone who has FASD themselves or is thinking they may have it and support for all women who are pregnant and whatever it might take to have an alcohol free nine months," Ormstrup says.

She says the day is also dedicated to those who become strong life coaches with people suffering from FASD.

"We also support professionals who work with those affected by FASD so whether that's schools or probation officers or social workers or nurses. We're out there to be another ear and another think tank for those professionals as well."

Throughout Internation FASD Day Ormstrup says the society will out and about in the community spreading awareness as well.

"We do a grade nine candy campaign so it's called 'Be A Sweetie' campaign. Every student gets a package of sweets and a message that says be a sweetie and support a pregnant friend. We take donuts to the RCMP and ask them to learn a little bit more about FASD too."
