Another successful Support the Cause Walk event was put on by Western Financial Group and its employees back in May.

Shannon Galley with the company says they raised money and held a walk to raise awareness about issues facing each community where they have branches.

She says this year's 11th edition was great.

""It went really, really well, so this year we raised just shy of $260,000, that's the total of all of our branches across western Canada," she says. "Our High River efforts raised just over $13,000."

All of the money raised in the Support the Cause Walk goes towards the Western Communities Foundation’s core programs which are infrastructure grants, matching grants and student bursaries.

Branches that raised at least $100 per employee get to decide where half the money raised in their community goes.

"Last year we polled our office to see where would you like to see the funds go in High River and they selected the High River Library, Galley says. "So we're working with the library to get some new desks for when the library re-opens."

She says they haven't polled the employees yet about the money raised this year, but Galley says the employees live where they work so they really know where the funds need to go and collectively decide where that should be.

Over the 11 years the Support the Cause Walk has raised over a million dollars.
