Online surveys, public events and stakeholder interviews have provided valuable input for the Town of Okotoks Municipal Development Plan update process.

Planning Services Manager for the Town, Jamie Dugdale, says there are several main priorities when it comes to the future of Okotoks.

"Sustainability, we want to try and better balance non-residential and residential growth, we want to make sure there's more housing options for people moving forward, and affordability is a big issue for us," he said.

A total of 10 stakeholders and staff were interviewed, along with over 60 people in attendance at the public launch event, in addition to the online survey results.

Dugdale says the surveys will assist with land use categories for the land annexed last fall.

"This plan will set out broad land use categories for those new lands that we annexed in terms of our growth,"

The top ideas gathered from the surveys and interviews were the protection of views and landscapes, stable water supply, parks and open spaces, strengthening the local economy, and managing growth.
