The spontaneous, lovely sounds of music floating through downtown High River from the community outdoor piano was a big hit last summer.

And volunteers are hoping to find some community support to protect the piano, which was fixed up over the winter, from some of the weather that comes this way in the summer.

The owners of the property the piano sits on have asked to have a better shelter than the temporary tent that covered it last year.

Bruce Masterman says he's found shelter, but it needs repairs.

"It needs a new top on it," said Masterman. "It needs to be repainted."

He believes it will cost about $3,000.

Masterman added it would be great to add a couple of benches for people to sit on to complete the project.

He added they had everyone from young kids to Mounties on patrol stopping to play the piano last year.
