When the Provincial Government settled with its teachers they agreed to provide $75 million in discretionary funding and $971,000 of that is coming to the Foothills School Division.

Assistant Superintendent Allen Davidson told the board Wednesday, teachers were surveyed about what was needed to improve student experiences.

About two-thirds of the division's 283 teachers responded and a committee approved a proposal.

They determined half should be allocated on a per pupil basis for non-teaching staff like teaching assistants, literacy and support staff.

Thirty per cent will go to staff development and the remaining twenty percent will be used to address staff challenges where there are issues like extra large class sizes.
