After months of preparation it's tee time for the first annual Foothills Victim Services Golf Tournament to be held on Tuesday at the Highwood Golf and Country Club.

Organizer Kurt Thomas with the High River RCMP says the idea came about during many late night shifts over five months ago.

"Everything sort of steam rolled from there. We were capable of taking on a total of 36 teams, and ultimately for the first year we weren't counting on full out success for the36 teams. I was hoping for at least 18 teams, one team for each hole and it looks like we're going to have 27 teams."

He says the day will kick off at 10am with a shotgun start and will wrap up with dinner and a silent auction with proceeds going to Foothills victim Services in High River.

Thomas says there are some pretty big prizes being dolled out and all for a great cause.

"We have two hole in one prizes up for grabs sponsored by a new organization within High River as well, it's the Citizens On Patrol. They've donated two hole in one prizes of $10,000, one will be a full payout to any lucky golfer to sink that ball in the first shot. The second is a 50/50 split $5,000 to the golfer that makes that fantastic shot and $5,000 to Victim Services."

He says the event will go rain or shine and will wrap up with dinner and a silent auction which include donations like prime rib dinner for twenty donated by Canadian Brew House.

Thomas says other items up for bidding will be gift certificates from local businesses, golf bags, putters and many more.

He says it feels great to give back to a organization that helps them and the public during difficult times.

"If you don't know what Victim Services is or have never had to deal with them find yourself lucky and be happy that you may never have to use them. In a case where you may require them, they're a great bunch of people and are ultimately they're there to help you get through whatever situation that you're in."
