High River's flood mitigation efforts continue, as the town plans to fill the gap in the dike on Macleod Trail S.W. Engineering Coordinator and Project Manager Jim Duckworth says the town hopes to have the project finished by early August and will be going out with the tender documents in about a week. He says the project will close off the entrance to Beachwood Estates.

"We'll be closing that gap in the dike, just matching one side to the other and building a small cul-de-sac on the dry side."

He says the project will prevent floodwater from coming through to the dry side.

"That closes off any floodwater that comes through the Beachwood area in towards Macleod Trail, closes that area off completely."

Temporary sand bags will stay in the area throughout the spring for temporary flood mitigation purposes.

A cul-de-sac will be constructed west of Highwood Trail on Macleod Trail, but there will continue to be local and emergency vehicle access to Beachwood Estates by 12th Ave.

Duckworth says currently there are three residents in Beachwood Estates, who are expected to be out of the area by July 31.
