Strong burly men, beautiful dancers, and pipers are just some of the things that make up a traditional highland games event but people living in the Foothills won't get to see it this year.

This is the second year that the Foothills Highland Games have had to be cancelled and for all those involved, it's incredibly disappointing.

Vice Chair of the Foothills Highland Games Association, Jackie Roe, says, it's not for lack of interest, but other factors.

"It's been really tough lately to find volunteers and sponsors. It's also been tough to find a location suitable for such an event."

The Foothills Highland Games, which were held in High River for 10 years, were moved to Okotoks by Foothills MP John Barlow before he became a Member of Parliament.

They grew in popularity as well, but in the last couple of years, support has dropped off and they haven't been able to continue.

Roe says that they still hope to bring it back and welcome both ideas and support from anyone wanting to help.
