Alberta Health Services has posted its first weekly update on flu data.

Over 424,000 doses of vaccine have been administered across the province with over 36,000 in the South Zone and over 157,000 in the Calgary Zone.

Of the 257 Lab confirmed cases of Influenza A, a dozen have been in the South Zone and 151 in Calgary.

Lab confirmed cases of Influenza B total just 31, with none in the South Zone and 25 in the city.

Ninety people have been admitted to hospital across the province with the flu, eight in the South Zone and 59 in the Calgary Zone.

Three people have died provincially with lab confirmed influenza, one in the South and two in Calgary.

“It's important to remember the influenza disease data we capture in our weekly updates is considered a mere fraction of the influenza activity that is actually impacting our friends, loved ones and neighbours,” says Dr. Gerry Predy, AHS’ Senior Medical Officer of Health.

“Not all cases of influenza are lab-confirmed and not all cases require hospitalization; however, by consistently sharing the influenza disease information that we do capture, we are still ensuring Albertans understand the stark reality of influenza.
