The annual Legion Poppy Campaign kicks off Sunday, November 1 around the country.

Here in High River, Legion Vice President John Rotheisler says they'll start it off by giving away more money from last year's campaign.

"We do the inaugural first poppy every year with the Mayor and then we have another donation to a community group we're going to do on that day as well. Which I'm going to keep to myself for now. But we were fortunate enough to bring in some more cash, so we're going to do another donation."

The High River Legion donated just over $25,000 from last years campaign to the High River Hospital last week.

They say they probably won't bring in as much money this year as they'll go it alone and stick to High River, where last year they helped out the brand new Okotoks Legion by campaigning in Okotoks as well, which helped their bottom line.

Legion members and other volunteers will be set up at stores and other locations around the Foothills starting November 1 and running through to Remembrance Day.
