Have you ever wondered just what goes into writing and presenting a good speech?

If you'd like to find out, now is your chance, just go and watch the 2017 Spring Speech contest hosted by the High River Toastmasters club on Saturday, April 22, starting at 10 A.M.

Also known as the "Division D" Spring International Speech and Evaluation Contest 2017, it takes place at the Baptist Church in Nanton.

President Jocelyn Hastie says the club was invited to host the event this year.

"The belief was by having High River host it, and host it in this area, it would be more convenient both for the other clubs like Brooks and Medicine Hat," said Hastie. "And it would be a pleasant day drive out of Calgary."

There are eight participants in the Evaluation Contest and another eight in the International Speech Competition.

"We are expecting a total turnout of around 60 (people)."

Hastie isn't just helping to host the event she has some pretty big personal goals to reach as she is competing as well.

"My goal is to do a really good job of representing our High River Club and hopefully move on to the district competition in Calgary and from there we go to the international stage."

Which this year is in Vancouver.

The public is welcome to watch the speeches.
