The Town of High River will be performing smoke tests on the sanitary and storm water sewer systems near Emerson Lake Wednesday, February 13.

The Town's Manager of Operational Services, Eugene Lund, says it's something they do when they think they have a leak.

"The sewer smoke test is when we use a smoke generator that's set up on a manhole to run some smoke through the sanitary sewer and storm sewer lines to check for cross connections and also to ensure that those lines are connecting to houses properly."

He says you'll see smoke coming out of the sewer grates and manholes, and some may even come out of the stacks on the roofs of homes.

He says the smoke is non-toxic and there is a chance for some to get into homes, so Town staff will be on hand in the area to answer questions and concerns.

Lund says the tests will take a couple of days to complete.

If you have questions, you can call the Town's Operations Department at (403)652-4657.
