A park planned for the Hampton's development in High River will be going ahead.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says there are still some roadblocks for the area but the park isn't one of them.

"There's issues with the development itself and we're working through those with the developer to get to a solution to progress that neighbourhood and it'll happen, but the Hampton Hills park is the Town of High River's responsibility," he says.

He says council has expressed to administration that the park is a high priority for this year although they won't be able to get it completed until next year. There's a clay cap that was damaged by the 2013 flood so it has to be re-done.

The area has come to be known as the candy cane park because the area had to be remediated and cleaned up after years of use as a landfill before the development went in.

There are a number of pipes protruding out of the ground that are to off-vent any gasses.
