A 2017 Canadian Award for Financial Reporting Achievement was recently presented to the Town of High River.

Tom Maier, the Town Manager and former Chief Financial Officer says it's an important achievement.

"Yes, it's important for us because of some of the challenges and struggles that we've gone through, particularly the last four years, but for many years, getting on sound financial ground and getting to a place where we're reporting in a manner that hopefully is more presentable and informative for the public," he says. "And to be recognized along with other great municipalities in Alberta as an award winner for excellence in financial reporting is important not just for the community but for council, our staff and our peers, to be recognized as the best in Alberta

Maier says its been the legwork that's been put in for the last 12 months with building a new, strong financial team, having consistency with that team and having the resources and the capabilities to produce a document at a much higher level than they've been able to do in the past that helped them achieve the recognition.

The award was presented by the Government Finance Officers Association of North America which includes thousands of municipalities all over Canada and the United States.
