One man is trekking across Canada in honor of the great care his father received during his time in a hospice.

Ian Bos began his journey in Nova Scotia on May 21 and will be stopping in Okotoks at the Foothills Country Hospice on Monday to help raise funds and awareness for the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association.

Bos' father Ted Bos passed away at the age of 68 in January after a battle with cancer. After struggles with the medical system, Ted was treated with dignity and kindess at the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.

Dawn, Elliott, executive director of the Foothills Country Hospice, says Bos is looking to meet a significant fundraising goal during his walk.

"His goal is to raise $25,000 for the Palliative Care Society and also to raise funds and awareness for different palliative care societies across Canada and the provincial palliative care associations."

When Bos arrives at the hospice he'll tour the facility, talk to guests, and take in a tea where others will have the opportunity to speak with him.

Elliott says it's important to shed light on the work hospices do.

"It just raises awareness about hospices and hospice care and there are still people who aren't aware that this service even exists," she says. "I think it's going to bring a lot of awareness to a really good cause."

Bos is expected to arrive at the Foothills Country Hospice on Monday around 3:00 p.m.
