One lucky Turner Valley resident is $100,000 richer$100,012 to be exact.

Robert Hoare, after years of playing the Western 649, hit it big recently, winning the $100,000 EXTRA jackpot, and an additional $12 to boot.

Hoare says the win almost didn't happen, as a rainy day nearly deterred him from going out and buying his ticket.

"So I said to my wife, 'Well even though it's raining, I've got to go get a ticket,' because I just wouldn't feel comfortable knowing I don't have a ticket to check the next day," he says. "So, I went and bought the ticket, and then came home with it, and that was on Wednesday (June 3), the day of the draw."

Hoare bought the ticket from the Hi Ho ESSO, located in Turner Valley.

He says he usually has his wife with him when he checks his ticket, and always jokes that she'll know he won when he came out of the store doing his "happy dance."

"Of course, she wasn't with me that day," he says. "So I came home, and I came around to the back and onto the deck, and she was in the kitchen, so I called her onto the deck. When she came out to the deck, I started doing my happy-dance, and she wouldn't believe me."

Hoare says the timing of the win couldn't be better, as he's recently retired and they just sold their house.

"We're actually pretty much set for good now," he says. "So, we'll have the equity from the house, and the winnings and what-not, so we're just going to take it easy. No definite plans yet for the winnings."

Hoare says he has a special plan for the additional $12 he won.

"That's (my wife's) share," he says with a laugh.
