His resignation was accepted by Town Council at a special meeting Thursday, January 22.

As per the Municipal Government Act, a byelection is to be held in the next 90 days.

In the meantime, Deputy Mayor John Waring will serve as the Town's interim Mayor.

Sharpe says in the release, “Mayor Rowntree’s strong leadership and unwavering commitment to the community as a member of Council will be greatly missed. We offer our best wishes to him and his family and extend our heartfelt thanks for his dedicated service.”
