High River RCMP have a man and woman from B.C. in custody after the Rexall Drug Store in the downtown was robbed early in the morning, Thursday, February 23.

Police were called out when someone tripped the alarm in the store.

On their way to the scene, one of the members noticed someone in the nearby area, and stopped them.

After further investigation, and some time talking to their suspect, police exercised a search warrant on a local motel and a van they say was used in the crime.

Inside the motel they arrested 21 year old Emma Collins from Prince Rupert, B.C.

They also found illegal and prescription drugs, along with a handgun and various other stolen items.

Also charged is 49 year old Tod Purvis, of no fixed address, but High River RCMP Sergeant Brent Hawker says he too is likely from B.C.

"That's the belief that they've been travelling from B.C. though Alberta. We're not sure what other jurisdictions they were in in Alberta. But they were caught here for the break in that occurred at the drug store."

Purvis is facing a total of 13 charges ranging from Break, Enter and Theft, Possession of Stolen property, both over and under $5000, possession and unsafe storage of a prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance and breaches of various Court Orders.

Collins meanwhile is facing eight charges, including: Break, Enter and Theft, Possession of Stolen property, both over and under $5000, possession and unsafe storage of a prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance.

The two made their first appearance in Okotoks Provincial Court Friday, February 24.
