The Town of Turner Valley has given their blessing to the backyard hen program in the Town.

Mayor Kelly Tuck and Council voted to change the animal control by-laws to allow people to keep the urban hens in their yards.

Tuck says after a flawless trial period for the program it was an easy choice to make it permanent.

"From the information we got back from staff, understanding it went really well. There was not complaints. We had staff go out and speak to some of the neighbours wanted to know how the whole project went. It sounded like it went fantastic and it sounded like it went terrific so people can move ahead now."

Tuck says she's not expecting a Stampede of people looking for backyard chickens, simply because of the costs involved, but she says she does expect to see more than the two people they had during the trial.
