A scary scene near the Hamlet of Brant Wednesday morning, as the Vulcan RCMP, and EMS from Vulcan and Nanton responded to a collision between a farm vehicle and a train at the intersection of Township Road 182 and Highway 804.

Cst. Greg Hendry with the Vulcan RCMP says the train was travelling Northwest when it collided with the Eastbound vehicle at the uncontrolled railway crossing.

"The train continued travelling Northwest, coming to a stop about 50 metres West of the controlled crossing on Highway 804," he says. "The engine from the train de-railed from the tracks, the engine still upright and attached to the rest of the train."

Hendry says there was one injury as a result of the collision.

"The driver and lone occupant of the truck, a 54 year-old male from Calgary was responsive, and transported to the Foothills Hospital by STARS Air Ambulance," he says.

The male is reportedly in serious, but stable condition.

"It's definitely a great reminder for people to have a look at uncontrolled intersections and make sure it's safe to continue through them," Hendry says.

According to EMS, there was extensive damage to the cab of the vehicle, and there are reports some diesel fuel spilled from the ruptured tanks of the semi-tractor.

RCMP say the intersecting will be closed for quite some time on Wednesday as crews clean up and investigate.
