Foothills Regional Victim Services is reaching out through social media by starting up a Facebook page, in hopes of sharing their message and hopefully attracting new volunteers.

Team member Merridell Richardson says they started a Facebook page for a couple of reasons.

"We want people to know we are there," said Richardson. "So if you do need us it is a quick way to contact us. Or if you were thinking of joining to be an advocate you can go and read up on what we do."

Victim Services has been in the Foothills Community for 25 years helping people.

"It is all police based referrals, so if there has been any kind of a victim of a crime or a trauma based incident, the RCMP will offer our services and we are just a huge base of resources. So if there has been a death in the family we will follow up."

The group currently has 19 advocates but they would like to have a base of 25.

"Our unit, it's all solicitor general mandated training and it is now done by e-learning which is great because you can do that at your own pace."

They also have group training which is great for team building with police officers and senior members of the team sharing experiences so everyone can learn from them.

A few new volunteers who are available in the daytime would be a great help.

The Foothills Regional Victim Services looks after Nanton, High River, Okotoks, Turner Valley, Black Diamond, Eden Valley and surrounding areas
