High River Town Council got a year end update on the Community Vitality Fund at their meeting on Monday, December 10th.

The fund had a budget of $70,000 in 2018 to help with community projects and $50,000 of that went to the three signature events, the Little Britches Parade, The Santa Claus Parade and the Heritage Inn Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Committee member Angela Caldwell told council the committee made the hard decision to cap funding requests for those three events at $45,000 of their budget going forward.

"Only leaving about $20,000 for those passion projects that we really want people to come to us with," said Caldwell. "It was hard, but it will be really interesting to see what all of the parades and the balloon festival do."

She adds they want some more beautification projects not events for the town.

Sheppard Family Park got a grant of almost $2,000 and they planted five fruit trees and three Saskatoon bushes with it.

Caldwell said besides events groups can apply for funding to increase the beauty and integrity of High River, promote ongoing citizen engagement and enhance community pride.
