For years High River has been home to Heartland and other network TV shows.

Now it's Vulcan's turn as they're hosting a production company shooting a show called "To Boldy Go" for the fledgling VTV, or Vulcan TV Network.

The shows Writer and Director Vern Wutzke says they're using Vulcan's ties to "Star Trek" as the basis for the show.

"In our story we've got a starship called the 'Starship Discover' that is from the 28th Century and they've discovered in history in 21st Century Earth there is this culture called 'Trekkies.' And they decide they're going to travel back through time and beam an away team to Vulcan, Alberta and explore the Star Trek Capital of Canada."

Wutzke says one of the coolest aspects of the show for fans is they can actually get their 15 minutes of fame in a rather iconic way.

"On our Facebook page 'Vulcan - To Boldly Go' we run contests. And people can win the role of the 'red shirt' on the Starship Discover. And we all know what happens to the 'red shirt' whenever they get beamed to the planet. So, we've got a very interesting story twist whenever we have a 'red shirt' come onto the bridge."

The pilot episode was shot last week and featured country music singer Lori Kole in the "red shirt" role.

Wutzke says they'll have a trailer available for VTV's launch this Saturday, September 26, with shows rolling out after that.
