The Town of High River is encouraging residents to participate in the Walk, Cycle or Ride contest that goes until the end of September.

Manager of Economic Development, Jodi Dawson says it doesn't matter how you get around as long as it doesn't involve your car.

"It's meant to encourage residents and people that work around High River to consider walking, riding or cycling and to take a picture of it. Put it on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or any social media of your choice and hashtag #HRNoCarSummer."

Dawson says High River has tremendous walking and cycling paths that connect the community and adds the town wants as many people taking advantage of them throughout the year.

She says a winner will be chosen on October 1 and it's a decent prize as well.

"I'm encouraging everyone, get yourself in this contest, there's a $100 gift certificate up for grabs for a random winner drawn from the submissions.

She says all you have to do is use #HRNoCarSummer to post your photos.

Dawson says she does it and loves it.

"I've been riding my bike from my home to work and it takes me five minutes door to door. I go through George Lane Park, it's beautiful. It's the most relaxing time of my day."
