Work is continuing at the site of the old High River water tower.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it's been moving along at a fair pace....

"We're into Phase 2, which is basically removing the top metre of the base, getting rid of it and doing the re-grading and clean-up of the actual park," he says. "That initial quote was the one that came in at three quarters of a million, $750,000, we were shocked by it, everyone was surprised by it, the town flipped out about it, totally understand that because it was a pretty crazy number but the actual number has come back at $565,000, a little more realistic."

He says work like this, considering all the contamination that was found at the site, is very expensive to do.

"It's not just a dude with a bobcat to pull this stuff off, you know with all the safety concerns and everything else that everybody has to abide by nowadays, has increased the cost of all these projects," the mayor says. "You can't just phone Oliver anymore and just tell him to clean it up for 25 bucks, right?"

He doesn't expect the work will be complete this year.

The water tower park remains closed while work continues

In the meantime the High River Kinettes are continuing in their efforts to get grant funding for new playground equipment.
