While there's plenty of road work being done in High River again this Summer, one project stands out for the changes it'll be bringing.

The west end of Macleod trail from about 7th Street S.W. to Highwood Trail is being rebuilt and High River's Acting Manager of Engineering Services, Jim Duckworth, says once it's done it'll match up with the work they did on the east end last year.

"They'll be bulbing it at 9th Street and some minor bulbing at Deibert Close to minimize the speeding. We use it as a traffic calming device and to shorten up the walking distance for pedestrians walking across those streets."

Duckworth says they've also had to remove the boulevards along that stretch of Macleod Trail, as the over 100-foot tall poplar trees were busting up the pavement with their roots.

But it's not all about cars.

Duckworth, says they've also been busy with the Happy Trails.

"We've also paved a portion of the west down dike there, from the Macleod Trail dike closure back to 7th Street, so that section has some brand new paving. We've installed some amenities as well for dog walking, benches and garbage receptacles, those kind of things."

Duckworth says the good news is most of their construction around town should be done by the end of August.

The section of Happy Trails from Beachwood to 7th Street S.W. along the berm has now been paved with garbage cans, benches and amenities for dog walkers added.
