Those looking to take a stroll along the new section of Happy Trails in High River between the Canadian Tire and Highwood High School along 12th Avenue are going to have to wait a while longer.

The Town had hoped to have the section finished by the beginning of September, but fell a bit short on that goal.

The path aims to connect the Happy Trails system and improve walkability for commuters walking to Highwood, and around the developing retail centre.

Manager of Engineering Services for the Town of High River Kailee Erdman says, poor weather around the tail end of summer, slowed the paths progress.

"The only thing that's holding us up now is strictly the weather. The last portions of that project, require it to be dry. So our weather hasn't been cooperating, but the hope is, looking at the forecast coming up, we should be seeing dryer weather so we should be seeing that project wrapping up."

Erdman says there's no update on when it'll be finished, but she says if they can get a stretch of dry weather they hope to have it wrapped up before winter.
