In the third installment of questioning the candidates running in the Foothills riding, we asked candidates their top priority for them and their party if they are elected.

Members of the Christian Heritage, Conservative, Liberal, Green and NDP parties answered the following question.

Tanya MacPherson, Liberal Party:

"Return funding to programs that have been cut under the Harper government that are considered necessary for the operation of the country, for instance Aboriginal education Harper made promises for that and less than a billion dollars in the bank has been spent since 2009 on Aboriginal education and he did the same thing with Veterans so we would make sure that funding was restored, and also there were a lot of environmental labs and atmospheric science that were closed under Harper that's very important. We need to know to the state of our environment and returning money to those programs. The CBC, so many people are understanding how much the CBC funding has been cut and would like to some of the funding restored along with infrastructure projects."

Alison Thompson, NDP:

"Affordable housing and I'm hearing not just that in Okotoks, but down in Fort MacLeod as well there's a lot of people have come into the riding mainly because of the hyper inflation activity because of the boom in the oil industry and now these people can't afford a place to live and their families can't afford a place to live and children are not being well set-up to go to school I think we have a big problem here with kids showing up without a lunch nevermind a breakfast. That type of support starts with having a home, and having a safe home, a home you want to bring up a family in and so I'd like to address affordable housing and I think one way to do that is create more jobs and more stimulus to the economy have more homes built and more types of dwellings, those are the types of things that will be immediately transforming to a riding like this."

Marc Slingerland, Christian Heritage Party:

"The top priority is life. We are the only party that believes in the value of human life from conception to natural death. The Supreme court has struck down Canada's euthanasia law giving it a year to implement new legislation. There's definitely ways to do that. The Conservatives sat on it for five months before they did anything. The other parties have indicated they would be in favor of physician assisted suicide and we know from places where it's been implemented that there's a very real slippery slope that quickly it becomes an expectation that those who are taking up resources or occupying hospital beds are expected to die. Doctors are required to participate in that even if it's against their conscience so that's something that needs very quick and forcible attention."

John Barlow, Conservative:

"The economy, there's still global unrest in terms of Europe and China these are going to be important things and with how things are in Alberta right its going to be creating jobs, we've created 1.3 million net new jobs since 2008. 80% of those are full-time, 80% of those are in the private sector well paid jobs and we've committed to creating another 1.3 million jobs between now and 2020 and I think that's important. As we've seen in Alberta with many lay-offs we need to focus on creating jobs and growing our economy and diversifying our economy, we can't rely on one industry and I think that's shown with the fact despite the low oil price across Canada our economy is growing so that shows we've done a good job at diversifying Canada's economy as well."

Romy Tittel, Green Party:

"The number one top priority if we are elected is first of all to bring in proportional representation and that finally is going to allow all of us Canadians to have all our votes count stop just voting our geography. The second most important thing we'll be doing as a government would be to repeal bill C-51and then the third thing is get ready to go and promote climate change, to show up in pairs with a really good plan, bold action, and really make a significant differenced and be a real player in climate change in this world."

Other candidates in the riding were contacted and unavailable for comment.
