Randy Williamson is a name well known in Turner Valley.

He's run for Council and Mayor before and will have his name on the ballot again next month when voters choose a new Councillor in a byelection.

Williamson says he was surprised to see six people throw their names into the hat for the vacant council seat.

"I was rather surprised no one came out for the Mayor position, that was a big shock. But I was really surprised that so many people came out for the Council seat. But again, I'm really happy they did because they're taking an interest."

He doesn't say it's out of control, but does say it can use some scrutiny.

"Basically if we can take control of our current spending policies. You know we need to review our spending every quarter. We need to reevaluate the employees wages, starting with our top income earners. I think we need to form a committee that only focuses to reduce our current spending practices."

He says Turner Valley's a great town, which they need to capitalize on by spreading the word.

"I think once they (Calgary) finish the ring road, there's going to be a lot of traffic coming this way. And we have to get ourselves into a position where we can capitalize on that by introducing new businesses. And we basically have to sit down and start selecting the type of businesses that we want in Turner Valley."

Voters go to the polls in Turner Valley Monday, April 8.

Advance polls go Thursday May 28.
