The Alberta Party is both for and against the new Alberta Carbon Tax coming into effect January 1.

Highwood Candidate Joel Windsor says he understands why opposition parties and many Albertans are against it, but says how the governing NDP are going about implementing it and using the money from it for, is wrong.

"There's a good thing in some aspects of carbon taxes. But not the NDP carbon tax. Their carbon tax is unfortunately not a carbon tax, but a wealth redistribution tool."

He says his party would use the tax for it's intended purpose.

"That's the one thing that we want to see happen with a carbon tax, is that it actually takes money from those who are producing too much carbon, and use it in new technologies to actually reduce the carbon footprint. If the carbon tax is not doing that, it's not doing it right at all. That's what a carbon tax is supposed to be doing"

He says the Alberta Party would also work to ensure any carbon tax was revenue neutral.
