High River Town Council has approved agreements for the High River Garden Society to operate the new community gardens near McLaughlin Meadows and Riverside Drive.

The final paperwork is being done to create the society, and Mayor Craig Snodgrass says the group has done a great job keeping the community informed.

"I think the garden society has done a fantastic job of showing the people around that live around these gardens what it's all about, what it's going to look like, why it's good for the community, why it's good for their neighborhood."

He says there's been great progress so far, but others are still free to express their opinions.

"There's one gentleman who came to council yesterday that had some concerns about it. And that's completely fine, I'm not going to stop or silence people that want to come to council and give us their opinion on stuff although I didn't agree with him."

Snodgrass he's interested to see what governing process the High River Garden Society puts together, but he's sure everything will be in line as they are using ideas from other existing communities.
