A brand new event is coming to High River later this month.

Jocelyn Hastie is bringing an event called Ignite Foothills to the Wales theatre November 25.

"Ignite talks are a series of five minute speeches, they are prepared speeches and they are put to a slide show where the slides advance automatically every 15 seconds," Hastie explained. "Our theme for Ignite Foothills is simply educate, entertain or ignite so they can be on any topics."

She's really hoping that young people will take up the challenge but it's open to anyone to speak about anything they're passionate about.

Hastie says it moves very quickly.

"The beauty of this is that there will be anywhere from 12 to 18 speakers and just five minutes per speaker so even if there's one speaker that doesn't particularly float your boat there's another one coming along in five minutes or less," she says.

She says the slide show, or power point acts as cue cards for the person who's presenting.

To become a speaker go to: www.ignitefoothills.ca and look for the section labelled Apply For Speaking".

Hastie says they have a professional videographer who'll be recording and editing the talks and they'll be put on the ignitetalks.io web site which has received millions of hits over the years giving speakers a chance at a world wide audience.

A speaker can send in the photos in advance of the event and they'll be put on the power point for them.

She says the event in Seattle has sold out 1,600 seats in eleven days and this is just the sixth such event licensed in Canada.
