Alberta Farm Animal Care is looking for individuals or organizations who've made exceptional contributions in the field of livestock welfare.

Nominations are open for their Awards of Distinction in Communications, Industry leadership and Innovation.

Marketing and Membership Manager with Alberta Farm Animal Care, Kristen Hall, says they want to recognize the hard work people put into the sector.

"There's so many people in the industry that go above and beyond to make it so much better, but they never get recognized for it. The goal behind the Award of Distinction is just to really showcase the hard work that's being done out there, and give people a sense of pride for what they're doing."

Alberta Farm Animal Care describes the Communications Award as one which honours those who take an active role in effectively telling the story about livestock issues, and informing the public and agri-food industry about farm animal care in a factual and honest way that is credible and builds trust.

The Industry Leadership Award recognizes those who integrate animal welfare into their core business strategy, striving to achieve more than expected regarding animal welfare and setting a higher standard.

Lastly, the Innovation Award is for people who've developed a new process, product, or source of knowledge that has made a significant impact on improving the welfare of livestock and the industry.

Hall says, they've only received one nomination so far, and they'd like to see more.

Nominations are in letter format answering why you think the person or organization deserves to win the award.

The nomination deadline is Friday, February 15 and can be emailed to Kristen Hall at kristen@afac.ab.ca.

Award recipients will be informed on or before March 1, 2019 and will invite be invited to receive the award at the Livestock Care Conference on March 21 in Olds.
