A DeWinton home was destroyed by a fire yesterday morning (March 20).

At around 8:00 a.m., the Foothills Fire Department was notified about a fire on a property on Highway 552 West and 265 Ave.

Deputy Fire Chief Scott Young says the home was located southwest of Heritage Pointe.

"That would be in our mutual aid area, it's kind of like a shared response. It would be Heritage Pointe's primary response area, but we would obviously always call in Okotoks for mutual aid."

They ended up seeing support from a few area fire departments.

"We had units from the Heritage Pointe fire station, which is our career hall, so it's staffed full-time. We also had volunteers from Spruce Meadows, and we had support from Okotoks which is also a career fire department with full-time members. Then we had tender support, which is water supply, from Diamond Valley and High River."

Unfortunately, the house was fully involved when personnel arrived.

"When crews arrived, the fire had already moved swiftly through the structure by the point that crews had arrived on scene."

Fortunately, no one was injured, and the blaze didn't spread beyond the home.

The investigation as to the cause is currently underway.
