As of last week, seeding is about 10 per cent complete in Alberta.

According to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry's latest Crop Report for May 8th, seeding progress is about 7 to 10 days behind the average schedule in the Province, but the dry weather has allowed operations to start in all regions.

The report says, standing water is still a significant issue in all areas of Alberta, and these acres will likely go unseeded.

Less than one per cent of crops have emerged as of last week, and all of those crops are in the Southern region.

The report says, with the recent warm weather, surface soil ratings have declined in Central and Southern Alberta, but they've improved in the North.

It also says, after the dry conditions experienced last year across much of Southern and Central Alberta, sub soil moisture levels should be carefully watched as there has been little time for moisture renewal.

In Southern Alberta, seeding is a quarter complete, which is behind the five year average of about 55 per cent for this time of year.
