The Town of High River is cautioning residents of a black bear sighting.

According to the town, workers in the Wallaceville area saw the bear just northeast of the Centre Street bridge today (Oct. 11).

Locals are advised to remain cautious, as at this time of year, bears will be looking for food to prepare for hibernation.

Be sure to keep dogs on a leash, as they can agitate bears which can pose a risk to pets and their owners.

The town is also asking locals to secure their garbage and not leave pet food outside to avoid leaving attractants for wildlife.

Bear sightings can be reported to the "Report a Poacher" line at 1 (800) 642-3800.
