With winter driving conditions returning, the RCMP is again putting out some warnings.

According to stats released by the Alberta RCMP over 5,800 seatbelt tickets were issued in 2018.

Corporal Blair Schneider with the High River RCMP says, so far in the first ten months of this year, they've issued 98 tickets but he says any number is too many.

He says it's important to make buckling up a regular habit so it becomes second nature, especially if you have children so they get into the habit as well.

Police and safety officials say occupant restraints keep all vehicle occupants safe and decrease the severity of injury in the event of a crash.

The law in Alberta requires that children under six years old or under 40 lbs be properly restrained in a car seat.

Most children are ready for standard seatbelts when they are nine years old or older, and either weigh over 80 pounds or are taller than 4'9".
