Local companies in Okotoks seem to be satisfied with doing business in town.

That according to the  recently released "Business Satisfaction Survey" the town put together after receiving feedback from 137 businesses during November and December.

Economic Development Team Leader Shane Olson says overall businesses have the town a "B" grade.

"73 per cent of the businesses thought that Okotoks was a good or great place to do business," he says. "There is always room for improvement but we think that that's a good starting spot."

Olson says there were some issues raised among smaller businesses in regards to competition from big box stores and an over-saturated market for certain products or services.

"Economical advertising was seen as an challenge, development processes and restrictions and things like lease rates and utility costs."

The two largest respondent areas were home based businesses at 39% and businesses in Olde Towne Okotoks at 26%.

About 50% of those were in the retail trade, pet, or fitness industries.

Olson says the town will now go over the information and work on developing action plans.

"We're going to be taking a hard look at everything, figuring out what we're doing well and where we can improve and continue to tweak our economic development strategies accordingly," he says.
