The Town of High River is still looking for feedback on a proposed Pilot Entertainment District in the downtown area.

An online survey has closed but feedback is still being sought.

Entertainment Districts are designated public areas where adults can consume alcohol while enjoying entertainment options within defined boundaries.

If approved, the pilot project would run from June 1st to December 31st of this year.

It would only be operational during special events, activated by applicants during the permit process.

Alcoholic beverages could be purchased from licensed establishments served in non-glass containers and would need to be consumed within the boundary.

There are some bylaw restrictions that would be in place while the Entertainment District is operating:

  • Smoking will not be permitted within areas of entertainment, including Entertainment Districts, as per the Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Reduction Act.
  • Alcohol can't be brought into the area and has to be purchased from an existing licensed establishment within the district.
  • Designated cups may be used to mitigate enforcement and reduce glass bottle waste.

Residents and business owners are being asked to provide their feedback on the proposed Pilot project.

Okotoks looked at a similar project last year but decided against it.
